How to find the edge of laser cutting machine

Laser cutting technology has gained widespread recognition in the market for its extremely high accuracy. This technology ensures a smooth and even cutting edge, reducing the need for subsequent processing. So how do laser cutting machines find edges?


Laser cutting machines generally have three methods: capacitive edge searching, photoelectric edge searching, and manual edge searching.

Click the "Edge Search" button under the "CNC" tab to pull down the triangle.


Users can choose the most suitable edge finding method based on their own conditions to determine the placement position of the board. The edge search result will be displayed in the upper right corner of the drawing area

In the dialog box, we can see the parameters in "Capacitor Edge Searching". Next, we will provide a detailed explanation of this section.

Board size X: the length of the board in the X-axis direction of the machine tool;

Board size Y: refers to the length of the board in the Y-axis direction of the machine tool. The coordinate positions of the last two points of the three-point edge search are automatically calculated based on the size of the board. Please ensure that this parameter matches the actual size of the board used for edge search. It is recommended to set the size slightly smaller than the actual size of the board used for edge search, as incorrect settings may result in the risk of binding.  

Edge distance: The position of the edge finding is usually outside the board. After the edge finding is completed, the point found after the edge finding is adjusted to inside the board through edge correction value. Setting the edge distance to a positive value will offset the point further inside the board, and a negative value will offset it outside the board to avoid shaking caused by cutting at the edge of the board. If you have already set the edge distance during layout, this value can be set to 0.

6-point edge searching: It is recommended to use thin plates and perform 6 single point edge searching actions to effectively avoid interference caused by tooth tips on thin plate edge searching.

Starting from the starting point of edge searching can make each edge search start from a fixed point. You can use the button on the right console to move the cutting head to the appropriate starting position and save the edge finding starting point. Please make sure to move the cutting head inside the board as the edge finding starting position.

Starting from the current position of the cutting head, every time the edge is searched, it starts from the current position. Please make sure to move the cutting head into the board and confirm that there is a board below before starting the edge search.

If "Automatic Edge Searching Before Processing" is selected, the software will perform a capacitor edge searching based on the position of the graphic docking point before leaving or starting processing.


How to find the edge of a laser cutting machine? Attention: Before searching for edges, please return to the origin and correct the machine coordinate system. Before searching for edges, please make sure that the cutting head can follow normally. The inclination angle of the steel plate should not exceed 10 degrees. After setting the parameters on this interface, users can perform manual edge searching tests.
