Initially, the festival was established by ancient ancestors to honor the Dragon Ancestor and pray for blessings and protection from evil. Later, due to Qu Yuan's suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month during the Warring States period, the festival also became a day to commemorate Qu Yuan. Over a thousand years of tradition, people now celebrate the festival by making zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), racing dragon boats, and hanging mugwort and calamus, all unique ways to honor the sage and pray for health and well-being, embodying deep cultural significance and national sentiment.
