What materials are suitable for laser cutting machines to cut

2025-11-14

Laser cutting machines are becoming increasingly widely used in daily life and production. Today, the editor will introduce to you which materials laser cutting machines are suitable for cutting, no longer just for beginners.

1. Carbon steel plate cutting:

Modern laser cutting systems can cut carbon steel plates with a maximum thickness of nearly 20mm, and for thin plates, the cutting seam can be narrowed to about 0.1mm. Laser cutting of low-carbon steel has a very small heat affected zone, and the cut is flat, smooth, and has good verticality. For high carbon steel, laser cutting has better edge quality than low carbon steel, but its heat affected zone is larger.

2. Stainless steel cutting:

Laser cutting is easier to cut stainless steel sheets. Using a high-power YAG laser cutting system, the maximum thickness of stainless steel cutting can reach 4mm.

3. Alloy steel plate cutting:

Most alloy steels can be laser cut with good edge quality. However, tool steel and hot mold steel with high tungsten content may experience melting and slag sticking during laser cutting.

4. Aluminum and alloy sheet cutting:

Aluminum cutting belongs to melting cutting, and by adding auxiliary gas to blow away the molten material in the cutting area, better cutting surface quality can be obtained. At present, the maximum thickness for cutting aluminum plates is 1.5mm.

What materials are suitable for laser cutting machines to cut? The four basic categories shared by the editor cover the classification of cutting materials. In today's development market, the application of laser cutting will also increase. Whether it is metal or non-metal, laser will gradually replace many traditional industry segments.
