How to Ground the Laser and Equipment, Testing and Troubleshoot Abnormalities?

The ground wire, also known as the lightning protection wire, refers to the wire used to introduce current into the ground. When electrical equipment leaks, the current enters the ground through the ground wire, high power electrical appliances need special attention.

Its function is to quickly introduce current into the ground through the grounding wire when your electrical equipment is leaking or induction charging, so that the equipment shell is no longer charged, ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.

Both lasers and laser equipment need strong power to ensure stable operation. Because of the strong power connection, grounding wire is a very important link in the use process. The laser ground wire can not only prevent leakage, but also prevent interference. If the ground wire is not connected or not connected properly, not only the staff will be easily injured when the machine leaks, but also the laser circuit board will be damaged.


Plant layout requirements

1. Use diameter 12 galvanized round steel or 5*50 galvanized angle iron to drive into the ground. The depth is preferably 1.5m or more, and the grounding resistance is within 4 ohms. If the requirements are not met, it is better to build a few more grounding stakes, connected with galvanized flat iron in the middle.

2. Use copper wire to connect with the ground wire of the equipment. The ground wires of machine tools, signal control cabinets, voltage stabilizers, and lasers can be placed on the wiring bar, close to the grounding stake.

Correct wiring method

1. Preparation tools: multimeter, wrench, hexagon socket key.

2. Connect the PE wire of the laser to the ground wire of the voltage stabilizer, use a multimeter to measure the resistance value between the laser shell and the ground wire of the voltage stabilizer. If it is less than 1 ohm, the connection is qualified. At the same time, connect the PE wire of the machine tool and the machine tool control cabinet to the ground wire of the voltage stabilizer, use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the machine tool, machine tool control cabinet shell, and the ground wire of the voltage stabilizer. If it is less than 1 ohm, the connection is qualified.

3. Check whether the ground wire connection between the voltage stabilizer and the main power distribution cabinet is connected. Use a multimeter to test the resistance value between the voltage stabilizer ground wire and the main power distribution cabinet ground wire. If it is within 4 ohms, it is normal.

4. Install the protection adapter board, connect the laser external control line and the machine tool control cabinet through the protection adapter board, and install the two PE wires on the adapter board terminal. After installation, measure the resistance value of the PE terminal of the protection adapter board and the PE terminal of the machine control cabinet in a connected state, if it is less than 1 ohm, the installation is qualified.

5. Check whether the ground wire is installed properly


①The impedance of the laser shell to the ground wire must be less than 4 ohms for multimeter measurement. (If it exceeds the standard, the laser ground wire is not connected.)


②The impedance between the laser and the machine shell less than 1 ohms for multimeter measurement. (If it exceeds the standard, the machine ground wire is not connected.)


③Unplug the laser external control line, power on the machine tool control cabinet, when the external control line is not connected and the controller system (machine tool) control signal is continuously output, the control signal to the ground voltage (EN+, EN-, PWM+, PWM- is less than 25v DA+, DA-less than 11v), there is no obvious peak in the measurement. (If it exceeds the standard, the control cabinet ground wire is not connected.)

6. Complete the testing, troubleshoot abnormalities, and the ground wire connection.


Circumstances of unqualified wiring:


The first type: missed connection.

1) The PE wire of the laser power supply line is leaking and not connected to the ground terminal of the voltage stabilizer.

2) The PE wire of the machine tool's power supply line is leaking and not connected to the ground terminal of the voltage stabilizer.

3) The PE wire at the input of the voltage stabilizer is leaking, and not connected to the ground terminal of the circuit breaker or the power distribution cabinet.

4) The PE wire of the laser external control harness is leaking and not connected to the ground terminal of the fuse adapter board or the machine tool control cabinet.

5) The PE wire of the power supply line of the machine tool control cabinet is leaking, and not installed on the ground terminal of the control cabinet.


The second type: not lead to the grounding stakes

1) There is no communication between the ground wire of the laser, machine tool, and machine tool control cabinet and the ground wire of the voltage stabilizer.

2) There is no connection between the ground wire of the voltage stabilizer and the ground wire of the input circuit breaker.

3) There is no connection between the ground wire of the input circuit breaker of the voltage stabilizer and the ground wire of the main power distribution cabinet.
